Indigenous Data Sovereignty Masterclass

As part of the International Indigenous Research Conference held at the University of Auckland in November 2024, Dr Moana Nepia and Assoc Prof Sarah Elsie Baker attended the Indigenous Data Sovereignty Masterclass.

The master class was an opportunity to share insights, strategies and tools to engage with indigenous data sovereignty (IDSov). Invited national and international experts spoke about the foundations of IDSov, presented pertinent case studies and offered reflections on local and global models.

The day gave the Digitaonga team much food for thought and confirmed the importance of utilising the Te Kāhui Raraunga- Māori Data Governance Model to inform our approach to the storage and preservation of digital data.

A workbook is freely available from the masterclass here https://maramatanga.co.nz/publication/indigenous-data-sovereignty-masterclass-workbook
